Actually had to cut that far back to find a good straight, square, level section of frame to build off of.

Plan was to use 1.75 round DOM, but it just didn't look right to me. I scrapped that idea and went with 2x2x1/4 to build a frame and winch mount. There will be more to the frame and eventually a winch mount and some sort of bumper... After the motor is dropped in.

Added some support to the frame- I will add some fish plates back to the factory dram and some angular bracing so I don't tweak the new frame with winch side pulls.

My welds aren't terrible... But are improving with each new part.

MR If you're gonna tie in a crossmember some where up front other than the front tie bar you won't need anything else---plates, gussets, etc. The welds look great, don't create to much brain damage like me;D I definently got a grip on overkill for the next project, you can never take away hell for stout though.

2x2x1/4 is pretty stout, but I like some overkill at the tow/winch points. If I gotta hang the rig off the side of a mountain, I want to know the winch is staying put!!

Got the frame fish plates on. Went to do the subframe fish plates... And ran out of welding gas... This sucks!! I guess no more progress until next week...

Just sitting here contemplating where to go next... I love fabricating even if I'm not that good at it!!

who's says your not good at it? i hang a shingle out as a fabricator and i think your work is very good

if it were me contemplating id get a big dry erase board and write out all the things you need to do. then try to lump things into phases of the build. i will either brainstorm with a friend or talk out loud to myself about each thing i want to do while walking around the rig. ill have a sharpie and a tape measure on hand and try to figure if it will make doing something else easier or harder. that way you don't go backwards (very much) when building. ill also mock up a piece of tube or whatever it is I'm about to use to build something. even if i can picture how it will go in my head i still go through the act of mocking up stuff. for me it just seems to present the obstacles (if any) a lot better. my .02, its looking great by the way!!!

Thanks for the encouragement!!

I have an engineering background, so I overthink everything. A white board is a good idea. I have several notebooks and a ton of sketches/drawings of what I want to do and it is constantly evolving.

Unfortunately the process isn't going how I would have planned it. The drivetrain should be in so I could plan the subframe better, but I don't have evrything I need. It is really following money and parts availability...

I am waiting on my rear truss to get the rear suspension squared away and that is my next big hurdle.

Do you have any pictures of the upper link mount on the frame? I would like to see how far out you have the bracket mounted.

Thanks,
Eugene

Been working out my front dual triangulated 4 link and trying to squeeze it all under the Bronco, but keep it low and functional...

I am looking at mounting the upper link frame mount outside the frame with the link going under the frame to the top of the axle. This will allow me to have a good angle on the links, clear the oil pan and give me some decent numbers in the 4 link calculator. I ran some mock up links and it appears I should get 6" up travel with frame clearance... If I make my brackets right. Which is the reason for my post.

I have a mock up of the upper link frame mount. The links will be at 20 degrees from center with 32" length. This will put me right in front of the body mount. Lowers will also run 20 degrees to CL and be about 42" long. I am concerned that the uppers are a little short, but they are close to the suggested 70% rule, fit and give decent calculator numbers

I would not consider this to be putting my engineering degree & skills to work!! LOL!

Brackets done- gussets to be added.

Welds don't look too bad- they always come out better when you chamfer the edge for the weld to penetrate into.

Thanks. I was jumping around the thread so I missed them. Good looking bracket. It helps with deciding how mine needs to go.

With no mig gas and no wire... I have work on other stuff while the kids are down for their naps!!

Cleaning and painting the 351 and unpacking the EFI setup I picked up... Should work on the Weind Stealth intake I have sitting around. AFR heads to round it out... Should look good, hopefully it performs... Thinking of staying with the stock cam for now.

Warn 12k... A little overkill? It wasn't for a full size truck on 44s, so it should be enough on this rig.
