Turned a small job into a big job (my specialty lately). Started out to change a rear axle seal that turned into both axle seals and bearings, new rear springs, bushings, degree shims, u bolts, extended parking brake cables, moved the axle back an inch and ordered a drive shaft…you know since I was in there.

Ok so be 100% visually sure on the rear axle ratio and to answer some other questions along with doing some inspecting and maintenance. I pulled the tires, rear disk brake calipers, axles and the heavy arse 3rd member.

Its got 5.14 gears, a spool, the bearings, races and axle shafts all look good. The fluid looked like a milk shake with 1/8" sludge in the bottom of the 9" housing. But NO chunks of ring gear or pinion teeth in the bottom.

So the replacement FRONT axle (full width 79 Dana 44) is at the builders, because I am not a R&P backlash set up guy. Getting new matching ratio R&P, locker ect...we are doing the rest.

And the other day the tube buggy/73 Bronco would not easily roll backwards. So I got into the rear axle. Seems that 2 springs broke and that let loose all sorts of stuff to get ground and or bent up.

Yep, all about "while you're in there" sometimes. But that was still a big progression!
Lots of good stuff checked off the list though.

Please share which vendor’s weatherstripping/seals you used, and how much effort does it take to close your doors?
The weather stripping I used came from Amazon. Generic bulb type that installs without glue. Just push on the metal lip around the door. I have used the original style from the vendors and doors had to be slammed to shut and glue never held. This type gives a perfect seal and easy to close doors. I am completely satisfied. I am looking for the link now. I will post it when I find it. Works on doors, tailgate, and lift gate.

After I got the hood struts installed, I looked around the shop at a few more items I will be adding whenever I can find the time. Working a full time job really gets in the way of working on my bronco. Cant wait to retire in another 16 months. ax-15.jpg door inserts.jpg new parts.jpg

Changed oil and filter, checked all fluids, and tightened the exhaust manifold to pipe doughnut. Exhaust leak fixed and drove it to town.

I was going to replace the airboxs under the hood until I saw what you have to do on the passenger side. The ingenuity of laziness had me find a 6" drain basin to freshen up that side. A little custom grinding got it done for a perfect fit. All I got to do it clean up the old adhesive that was on it. Drivers side is the WH storage box, top notch product I might add.

Got my longer and correct length rear brake shoe retaining pins. So I got one side replaced (yea quick and easy), and then had to go to work...

I've waited a few years to do this but the time is right. Stripping it down over the next few days and then looking forward to some fresh paint.

Put the new driveshaft in and took it out for 1st drive after a bunch of suspension work from last week. Ride was very nice…new problem- started cutting out on the main tank, but ran fine on aux tank. All new from tanks to carb so I get to look into that now…

Removed engine, replaced seal for the torque converter, replaced engine and power steering pump. Only one minor leak so far. Will run it again tomorrow and see what else will need fixing.
