Does anyone sell a stock or stock type exhaust?

Do any vendors sell an exhaust setup that will bolt up to stock manifolds and have the Y pipe or other type of 2 into 1 setup that results in a QUIET (I mean QUIET) setup?

Not interested in the BC Bronco's exhaust, looking for something that will include a tailpipe.

I'm going to sell (or trade) my currently new 2 into 1 setup and my long tube headers in favor of something that closely resembles a stock exhaust. Here's my CL post if anyone's interested. http://buffalo.craigslist.org/pts/1906554276.html

I just had my exhaust guy build my exhaust to resemble the stock set up, but I went with 2.5" all the way. I used a Y connection like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-10768/ and Magnaflow muffler like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-10436/.
I did use the Hedman ceramic coated long headers and not stock manifolds, but I'm sure it would be easy enough to set it up with the stock manifolds.
My exhaust is quiet enough to talk and hear each other with the top off, but sounds aggressive when you step on it.

Thats similar to my current setup Paul. Long tube headers into 2.5" pipe, 2 into 1 with a 3 chamber magnaflow muffler exiting out behind the passenger tire. Its still way too loud. I just want it to be as quiet as possible, I'm leaning towards a stock setup because its proven to be quiet. I'm on my third exhaust system in three years - tired of spending money and ending up with the same loud results.

Find a muffler shop that carries Walker brand mufflers and pipes. If you really want to be as close as possible to original, they can order pre-formed pieces (headpipe and tailpipe) and the replacment muffler from the catalog

It won't be perfect, but as close to original as you're going to find these days.

It doesn't have to be "original" looking - just want something that will be as quiet as possible.

Whats setup will give me the least amount of noise?

Stock type: Manifolds -> 2" pipe -> Y-pipe -> Single round 25" muffler -> 2" tailpipe exits behind passenger tire.

Modified: Manifolds -> 2.25" pipe -> Y-pipe -> Single longest muffler I can find -> 2.25" tailpipe exits behind passenger tire.

have to remember too that you have a 351
....can't bolt a 302 system on it, won't work. I recommend having one made for it.

I had a muffler shop replace the system from the manifolds back when I bought my '77 about five years ago. Since I'm in CA and the Bronco had been in CO, I needed to put a catalytic converter back on it.

The installer asked what kind of sound level I was looking for, and I told him pretty stock. So what he did was put the longest muffler he could behind the cat; it's a big round one with larger inlets and outlets than the stock 2" pipe which he made little adaptors for. I think it's essentially a version of what the stock muffler is, but a bit larger, like for a medium or heavy duty pickup.

Behind that it goes over the axle just like stock, and makes a 90-degree bend to exit behind the rear tire. (Since then I've learned that going on a 45 toward the corner actually makes it even quieter to the driver's ear.)

In essence, it's really quiet. You only hear the slightest burble at idle, and when cruising down the freeway you don't even hear it.

Why not? 302 Manifolds will bolt right up, right? Won't the rest of the system fit or is the width off?

I had an exhaust shop make the stock system for the 66 I restored. They did it from a sheet on their records and fit great. They should be able to build a stock replacement quite easily.

width, the 351 block is wider

Son of a....

Ok - so I might as well keep my currently new 2-into-1 2.5" pipe and adapt that to fit the stock manifolds, right?. I'm going to swing by the parts stores today and see what other mufflers are out there that might help quiet down this mofo.

right, have you looked into having something bent up?

You might check in with Tim at roadsterU13.com. I think he's been working at getting some stock tubes bent up and might be offering them at Bronco Graveyard or privately soon. The main problem with the front u-pipe is the slight change in exhaust manifolds on the V8. I've seen a few different variations. A good exhaust place should be able to easily bend up a stockish 2" Y too. The stock one is hard to duplicate on most exhaust place benders though. My '77 piece had some pretty tight bends.

what part number magnaflow muffler are you running??

Its a 3 chamber Magnaflow XL. 2.5" inlets and one 3" outlet. The actual muffler is 14" in length but the total length (from inlet to outlet) is 20"

I just spoke with a local muffler shop and the guy said I could bring it in and he'd try out a few different mufflers (without charging me) to see if we can get something quiet. I'm gonna head over there in a few.

post back what you end up with. I'm in the same boat, 351w stock manifolds and wanting as quiet as possible.
