Does anyone sell a stock or stock type exhaust?

The dual setup was similar to what I started with. The PO put 2 turbo mufflers inline to try and quiet this thing down. (Pic 1) Needless to say I was quite "baffled" on why there were so many mufflers on my truck. I removed them thinking "hey wouldn't it be cool to have a side exit exhaust that was loud and crazy...might free up some HP too". That resulted in (Pic 2) - needless to say this wasn't any quieter.

My latest attempt was a 2 into 1. Again I thought (theres a problem here with thinking), hmmm this time I'll be smart and buy a 3 chamber magnaflow - its more expensive so its gotta be better than the other mufflers and probably quieter too. (Pic 3).

So now we're on to option 4 - keep the current 2 into 1 setup but ditch the magnaflow in favor of a super long truck muffer (TBD) - I'll let you guys know how it goes. If this doesn't work I'll sell the headers and go back to manifolds.

The muffler shop recommended a 2000 Explorer muffler but they wanted to charge me $350 to install it. Going to call a few other places around here and try and find a better option.

That's WAY high. I paid $650 for an entire custom system, inlcuding the catalytic converter.

(And just about anything you have done in CA is more expensive, due to all the environmental laws and taxes.)

Trust me - I told them not to touch it.

I found an AP muffler for $65 that has a 19" body (24 overall) with dual 2.5" inlets and one 2.5" outlet. It'll be in tomorrow. Lets see if this one helps.

Have you looked at the Thrush Turbos? I've got an older set on mine & standing right next to it, it is fairly quite. Even on the highway going 70 it is quiet (or as quiet as an EB can be with no sound deadening in it) enough for me to listen to the radio. Guys with headers are about 2x as loud as mine is. I've got a rust hole right behind the pass side muffler & I can hear that over the driver side muffler going down the road.

Your exhaust issues are making me thank god I have the WH shorty headers. I think most of your issues are whatever those long tube headers are.

If you had some shorty headers, you would have a lot more options on how to route the exhaust, and then have more room to install a bigger muffler.

I hope that AP muffler works out for you.

The other option is 2 small resonators befor the muffler, but that can get expensive.

Another vote here for completely stock to be quiet. I have a newer stock set-up from some local shop and it's quiet. Just slightly louder than my '03 4Runner. Yes, definately, a 302 out of a 77 Bronco will be a little louder than a newer 4Runner...but not much. And at this point in my life with 3 kids 10 and under...I appreciate some QUIET ;D:eek:

The AP muffler was a big failure - louder than the magnaflow - sounded raspy. Thankfully the nice guys at the parts store let me return it.

Dont know for sure, but it looks like what your after. If you read the fine print, it a turbo style which I have always had good luck with.

Could you stay with the dual-into-single system you already have and try adding a Supertrapp muffler on the back?

Napa had the 21400 Quiet Flow muffler in stock so I picked one up last night for $120. Its wider and much much longer than the others so today I'll be cutting and re-welding some pipe to hook this sucker up.

Do any vendors sell an exhaust setup that will bolt up to stock manifolds and have the Y pipe or other type of 2 into 1 setup that results in a QUIET (I mean QUIET) setup?

Not interested in the BC Bronco's exhaust, looking for something that will include a tailpipe.

My stock exhaust system was made to get you to the exhaust shop if you want a tail pipe. The pipes can be ordered without the muffler so you can pick your own muffler and a turn down and be done or go to the shop and have them install a out the side or out the back tail pipe. Just so you know.

I didn't mean that negatively Chuck. I've heard great things about your setup. I actually modeled my current setup after your 2 into 1 system.

No problem, I know you are about done now just wanted to let everyone know My system is versatile. I just have no way of knowing where people want the exhaust to exit and what might be in the way like shocks, gas tanks, fuel pumps and wrap bars. With my system you can drive it to a muffler shop and get away with just a tail pipe rather than towing and paying $650 for a system. Anyway, seems you have it all worked out except maybe a muffler. If the one you have now is not quite enough you might look for a big luxury car muffler like caddie or Lin. Some have big engines and are very quite.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

The Walker Quiet Flow 21400 is great! Sounds like a truck again. Here's a pic of the muffler, its a monster at 29" long.

The sound is way more subdued than the other mufflers. Not whisper quiet (I dont think thats possible) but no where near as annoyingly loud as it was before. Cruising at 40+ and all I can hear is the wind and the tires (and the header tick %) ).

VERY happy!

Here's the specs on the muffler:

Cost $120
Body Configuration : Dual Offset Inlets - Center Outlet
Body Diameter : 7" x 9"
Body Length : 29"
Muffler Inlet I.D. : 2 1/2"
Muffler Outlet I.D. : 2 3/4"
Muffler Shell Overall Length : 24"

Lifetime warranty too. :)

Here are some pics of the final install.

I just took another ride and its amazing. I'm very happy with the change. Now I've got some kind of tick to chase down (maybe headers) and lots of new squeaks inside the cockpit!

Yeah, the problem with quieting down an EB, is you hear all sorts of 'new' sounds. Is that 2 3/4" an odd exhaust size?

I guess its the stock tailpipe size for those pickups. I made a few slits in it and used a 2.5" clamp and an impact gun and it clamped down fine to my 2.5" tail pipe - no leaks.

The problem with aftermarket mufflers is that most are designed for more flow (which usually means more sound). This was the best one I've found for my desires. It still sounds healthy, just a lot more classy - like I've just spread some grey poupon on it. ;)

Ok, I was wondering what that was going on at the inlets. For my 2into1, I'm considering doing 2.25" to a 2.5" Y pipe and a single inlet stock style round muffler to a 2.5" tailpipe. I haven't decided on headers or my stock manifolds yet, although I did restore my manifolds. I don't mind a little rumble, but NO DRONE!

Thanks for posting all of this.
