Does anyone sell a stock or stock type exhaust?

Ok, I was wondering what that was going on at the inlets. For my 2into1, I'm considering doing 2.25" to a 2.5" Y pipe and a single inlet stock style round muffler to a 2.5" tailpipe. I haven't decided on headers or my stock manifolds yet, although I did restore my manifolds. I don't mind a little rumble, but NO DRONE!

Thanks for posting all of this.

The inlets are 2.5" - what you see in the pics are stainless steel clamps. The outlet is 2.75" (that one has the normal exhaust clamp on it).
I've got no drone at all and a very little rumble. To me it sounds exactly how a street bronco with a slightly built 351W should sound - its not "hey look at me" loud but you definetly know theres not a little 4 banger in there either.

Been following these threads about the Quiet Flow with great interest. I have a mostly stock 302, how do you think a Quiet Flow will sound in comparison to your 351? I will probably do headers/ carb/ intake manifold at some point, but for right now I'm just trying to figure out the easiest/ cheapest way to quiet this monster down. Right now I basically need those headsets they wear in helicopters so I can talk to my wife on the highway!

I'm going with this muffler per Heus' suggestion. Summit Racing sells it for only $81.95!

Great thread.

What exhaust do you have on there now?

If I were building one from scratch I'd stick with the stock iron manifolds with a simple 2 into 1 exhaust. 2.25" pipe and a stock type muffler or even a cheapo summit turbo muffler would be all you'd need. Using the Walker Quiet Flow will make things even quieter.

If you wish to add headers you're going to want to do that at the same time. Headers will give you a few more ponies but they're loud, hot and they leak.

I picked up a stainless system from LMC, it's dual all the way back though. It was complete from header to tailpipes, not a cross over system. I opted for the glaspacks and she's a little loud but they offer regular mufflers on them too.

With such a long muffler, does the axle hit the case when articulating off-road? I'd like to quiet mine down too and think a longer muffler will help, but I don't want to limit rear axle flex or bash the hell out of it when wheeling.

Thx

Its all in how you run the exhaust - if done correctly you shouldnt have any issues with flex.

Hey Tom-

Are you still running this exhaust? I know, old thread, but the '74 is going to need something and I'd like to be able to speak to the wife and kids.. :)

When I put a 351 in my Bronco it still had the original system, an advantage of being in Az. I was sure the added width and height of the 351 would mean I needed a new system. What happened was, the pipes all worked. The driver side pipe has a slip over connection with the Y pipe and there's enough overlap to seal when clamped just fine, with no leaks. A Midas dealer in Tucson who is an EB owner, found he has a program for reproducing the original 2 to 1 system, and can do it in 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 pipe. Other Midas shops must have this too. In spite of the fact the original system worked perfectly and as quietly with the 351, I made the bone head decision to put in duels with turbo mufflers. I got no more power or mileage, just more noise. Now I'm going to be able to go back to the original style with 2" into 2 1/4" with a Quiet Flow or similar type muffler. The original hangers on the frame are still there so even after my bonehead move I can still do an OE clone exhaust that's even quieter.

I would be interested in a good sound file. I'm leaning towards chucks system but I do t want a drone or obnoxiously loud. I am soundproofing the crap out if it.
