I didn't have time to read through everything but what ive seen looks great! that is a hydro boost unit you are running right? what set up did you go with? im doing a 5.8 with the lightning intake and running a zf so I didn't know what set up worked best with the 5.8 , hydroboost, and the master cylinder for the zf.

thanks!

and again it looks great(even the same color im going with!)

Jason glad to hear you fired up with little problems. You've been chasing small details for some time now. Thanks for clearing a path and documenting the crap out of it along the way!!!

efi tuning

Care to share?

Sure, Very easy Garry, told me that idle air adaption can take a ridiculously long time to begin to adapt. So disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so, then start it and let it run for 30-40 minutes without touching the throttle. Then go drive it and see if it helps.

Worked good for mine!

My hydroboost is completely astro bolted strait to the firewall. I did make an adapter to clock it in that position. There is not a lot of clearance but it does clear and i havent had any trouble. If you are thinking of going to hydro i would recomend it , they are very powerfull!

Thanks Hank, there are a bunch of little details i wanted to get right just so i dont have to worry about them for a long time. I tried to document as much as I could with pics , I know for me things are easier to understand with pics. If there is anything i left out let me know and i can try to add it in.

Jason,

Very nice build thread.

I'm getting ready to do this same upgrade.

How much body lift are you running ?

I plan to keep my unmolested stock hood and would love to avoid a body lift although I'm told this is impossible with a 351.

Thanks, hope the thread helps out with your conversion.

I have a 1" body lift, I really dont care for the look of large body lifts but i decided to go with 1" just for the extra clearance for my zf. I had to cut a fairly decent size hole in my hood even with the body lift so i doubt if the 351 explorer efi conversion will allow you to keep a stock hood .

I can take a picture of my hood to give you an idea of the clearance i needed.

more pics

Here are a couple more pics of the efi install.

My intake tube is the stock explorer one just cut down. I went down town and picked up an adapter and filter.

My return fuel line goes into the fuel fill neck. It is a barbed fitting, its bent to shoot it down into the tank.

As you can see i cut a larger hole in my hood to clear the intake. Even with the coil packs lowered i still needed to notch the front support to clear the packs.

Thanks for the additional pics.

Now I'm contemplating sticking with my 5.0 to avoid chopping up hood.

Or 2" body lift for the 351 win! That 302 gets to good a fuel economy.

bronco hood pictures

Here are some hood pics, I dont honestly know what exactly my scoop is from. I picked it up at ford carlisle, i think its a aftermarket replacement scoop from some sort of chrysler musclecar from the 70s it is just turned around on the bronco.

wiring cleanup

I decided to try and clean up my wiring. I had some fuse panels and relays out under my hood and never liked the way they looked. I figured now would be a good time to move them before I head offroad and get them all muddy at roush creek. I used a piece of plastic cut to fit behind where the glove box was. Here are a couple pics.

Nice work, are you looking for a job?;D

I know a guy that could use some help. He's a real prick and doesn't pay very well. But he'll keep the keg full.

I think you guys are even more impressed with it than i am;D I thought it turned out ok, thanks for all the nice comments.

I had a plastic glove box liner too. I just couldnt fit all my stuff in there or i probably would have tried.

I ended up cutting down a 6x6 plastic post cover to make the mount. I couldnt figure anywhere to put it without doing away with the glove box. I have a center console so the glove box isnt a must.
