It seems there are plenty of broncos built on this site for off road wheeling. I'm trying to get an idea of the flavor of this site.

I'm still on the prowl for my first Bronco, I want one to replace my current tow vehicle that needs to be able to tow on the beach as well as on the road.

We (my husband "broncoxraptor" and I) love off roading and I've always had an affinity for older trucks. I just needed an outlet for it since I never grew up with trucks. I met my husband and I fell in love with EB's as well as him haha. We use our 69 for mostly off roading and he uses it to get himself to work when it's too cold or in the off chance: rain, instead of the motorcycle. Plus EB's are so versatile.

Did I mention they just simply look cool? Haha.

Hopefully you find your's soon!! Keep looking in local craigslist.com, truck finders and you'll find one soon enough.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you going to be towing?

Mostly off road use only (trailer). But kept it street legal enough to drive around town..

What do you plan to tow with it?

you need to have multiple options. i have 2 one to drive everyday and wait the other one is too. actually one, the 66, is a work truck with a plow and the 69 a daily driver

I was about to post a similar comment. I also have 2 (actually 3 but one's for sale!) with one mostly trail but street legal, and the other an unrestored original which I drive mainly on street cruises or to shows. That's what so great about Broncos - more choices about what you do with them than with a street only type vehicle.

One caution though, EB's are not great tow vehicles unless you pull a pretty small and light trailer. What are you intending to tow?

I purchased both of my Broncos for the same reason even though I bought them 20 years apart. I wanted a versitile vehicle that can drive though deep water, mud, over felled trees and any other terrain that I throw at it. I wanted a vehicle that you don't see everyday. I wanted something unique and different because I am unique and different. :) Some say I am down right strange!

a few things to think about...

I'm not big into offroading buit like to drive mine around town on the weekends here in Fla. since the weather is perfect for a convertible/open air vehicle 10 months out of the year. You can spend a lot of money upgrading a truck to get the goodies you want and there are plenty of them out there! Try to find a truck that already has some of the things you might need and start making a spreadsheet that contains Must Have's and Like's.

For example, do you need to have a locking diff. or will a limited slip or open diff. work for you? Do you need larger than 33" tires? If so then you might want to look for one with a certain size lift already on it or specific gearing since you'll be towing stuff with it. The stock 3.50 ratio might not be the best for towing a trailer/toy hauler with 35" tires and the stock 3 speed tranny.

Do you need to have heat/AC? How about a soft top vs. hard top? Bikini top? Do you have room to store all of the above? When I bought mine I didn't take the hard top because I have no extra room to store it and knew I wouldn't be using it hardly ever.

Also think about your budget. Some guys out there will sell their rigs for exactly what they have in them and some for a loss. If they have $5k worth of body work into a truck and $1k worth of running gear/engine/wheel and tire upgrades then that might not be the truck for you. Maybe you are looking for something that is the other way around with a lot of under the hood upgrades but needs some minor body work. Are you handy with tools? Can you work on it yourself? Do you have a fix/upgrade budget in mind? Is it realistic?

Just some things to think about. These trucks are AWESOME and it's really easy to pick up a catalog and start dreaming about what you want in your dream rig, but getting the funds/time to do it all is another story!

Good luck with your search!

Email me if you want me to build a spreadsheet for you that will weigh the costs of some truck options and rank prospective trucks for you.

I take mine to mountain bike trails and camping, also use it for my "fun" vehicle. You just feel good behind the wheel (and underneath it or in the engine compartment when its broken down) :)

The look is awesome, the capabilites are better and chicks dig it! I like mine with the music at full blast with no top and no doors!

The help you will get on here is worth its weight in gold!

I initally bought it to try and compete in the FL triathalon they had a while back. My bronther had just got out of the Army and I was hoping to get to know my little bro a bit more. (other than the smack down every so often). I also want to travel a bit to CO and Canada and visit some freind that i lived with when I lived in Africa.

Jetski's, I'm an avid jetski freerider. Basically, I ride standup jetski's in the surf. I know these trucks aren't made to tow a heavy load but a double jetski trailer is pretty light work.

here are a couple of my pics:

Like most people I bougth mine because I love Ford trucks. I had a 67 mustang but got sick of it, then a 68 4x4 truck but it was a beast to drive on the srteet and off road. So I went to a Bronco. Cool old school looks, fun to drive on the street, not to big for offroad. The best of both worlds. I wheel mine when I can but use it more on the street just because there is nowhere to wheel close to home!

I bought my first EB right out of high school (since sold it) because my uncle's buddy had one & I loved it. It was also the ease of being able to work on it by myself without the need for a regular shop encyclopedia. But my main reason for buying it was because it was just plane cool. That was 16 years ago & I am now using my 2nd EB as a daily driver/weekend warrior. I just recently sold my 3rd EB.

Every one of these and everyone's is completely different, which makes them that much more interesting. I have seen guys with almost identical setups as mine & in no way would you call them the same. Each one has it's own individual "personality", if you will.

None of these options really fit what mine is for. I don't daily drive it, I don't off road it, it's not a show truck, I don't tow with it. I guess it's my have fun when I want to drive it truck? Once I get the new suspension on, I might MILDLY off road it. MIGHT.

Yeah I couldnt vote either - I use mine for fun - weekend trips, nice day cruises, dogs, bikes, and the occasional "yeah, it'll go over/thru that".

It makes a great second car for those who want something different but don't want to spend a ton of money on some other overly hyped classic.

I bought it back in 94 because I needed a car. My 84 Bronco II had died, I was working an entry level job out of college and I found this Bronco for $2300. It was fugly, but it ran and I was infatuated with them since moving to Denver and seeing these really cool old trucks everywhere. So I bought it and it was my DD for a few years.

I moved back to PA in 97 and put it in the garage with "plans" for down the road. Now I'm finishing restoring it, making it what I always wanted and it will be a road queen for enjoyment on nice Summer days. I'd vote show truck, but I have no intentions of driving it to shows and sitting in a chair all day while people look at it. I'm building it to drive it whenever I can.
