Why did you buy a Bronco?

Bought my on ebay while I was in Iraq. Started lookin for a Heep or blazer and a buddy of mine turned me onto the Broncos. Found it and scooped it up.

I have always been in to wheelers, after I sold my FJ40 Landcruiser when my kids were born, I said I was done. Grew up with Fords, so one day I started looking on Ebay and I bought one from Texas... That was 7 years ago. Last year I picked up a 77 to work on. My Boys like wrench'in with Dad, my Wife thinks I am NUTS... It is a sickness, but at least I am not alone. ;D

Broncos are too short to tow a heavy or long trailer well, not stable enough, but you'll be fine w/jet skis

When I was a young boy my Dad had a 1974 he bought brand new. Did a lot to i tbuilding the motor and suspension. Still remmeber my first ride in the back with the top off....
Been hooked ever since, can't shake the need, worse than drugs.

Bought my '69 in 1997, my wife (at the time) hated it, probably was a small part of our divorce. Would love to get another one. Boy, I sure do miss that Bronco.

I bought mine many years ago to use as a DD and to explore the abandoned mine roads that are all over Az. Little did I know what an attention grabber they are, and chicks do dig them.
I got my first standup jet ski in 83 and I still have one. They are a blast!

My wife and I were lookin for a good 4x4 to thrash on and get from point A to B in the winter, and we didn't have a lot of money to spend. looked at some early ramchargers, and a couple of Scouts...then on the way home we saw the 74 sittin in a driveway with a 4sale sign. pulled in, checked it out, didn't even test drive it and we decided it was a "must have".
a decade later, and I still have less than $6k total into it, and it gets driven at least once a week in the summer, more in the winter.

Bought this thing in 1978 because it was a good deal! I have had it now for a very long time. Been all over in it, towed it, drove it, had it shipped, she's always been with me some where. I own it today simply because I cannot imagine my driveway without the old bronco parked there. It is nearly time to get into the restoration full tilt, but for a while longer while I research and develop a comprehensive plan I guess she'll just sit in the drive for a while longer!

I'm like the OP in that I just started looking for an EB. Going to
look at one next week. In the late '80s I lived in San Diego and
wanted one real bad to do a little wheeling but with living in an
apartment and moving alot it was just not the time. Fast forward
20 years, I was given a Scrambler and am halfway through a
frame off resto when my wife says she'd really like it for her
summer daily driver when I'm finished so I figured I better
start looking for something for me. The one I'm to look at is
supposed to be in pretty good shape that way I will be able
to drive while working on the 8. Dave.

The reason we bought our Bronco is because in '77 it was cheap. The only Ford that cost less was a Pinto.
The reason we still own it? I can work on it!

And said it goes or she goes, I sure don't miss the Ex-Wife

What is the real question?

It seems there are plenty of broncos built on this site for off road wheeling. I'm trying to get an idea of the flavor of this site.


I'm still on the prowl for my first Bronco, I want one to replace my current tow vehicle that needs to be able to tow on the beach as well as on the road.

The real question is why did I buy my first 40 Bronco's
Ted Nugent Had One! It is a disease with no cure.

Do not be afraid to jump right in.
Start with a mid range 302, auto. Drive it for awhile and see what they can do. Then find an original to restore, Then
find one for rock crawling, then one for sand drags, Trail rig, daily driver, stretch limo, then..........................

Why Ask Why

I was wanting something to hunt out of and to use on the farm ...I'd like to drive it to work but haven't much ...But it was good to hunt out of and has worked pretty good on the farm ..I need 4x4 about 20 % of the time as the front hub stay locked in until I go to the pavement ...Sure wish the kid would get my 4BT in it...I want it back...

I bought mine when I was 15 (18 years ago) b/c I lived in Wyoming and needed a 4 x 4, also it was cool, but mostly because I had 3K to spend, and that was the price for my Bronco. It was in storage for 7 years, but I finally have it back, and is now my DD.

Honestly...It was kind of FORCED on me by my wealthy brother who saw it and thought of me AND he had to buy it! TRUE

He owned it , paid for the gas tanks to be cleaned, had a brake job done to it and added a stereo. He then kept it for about a year. He did not want his kids to drive on old "unsafe" car. And wanted me to buy it! I owned a Jeep that I had really poored my all into building, arbs, gears,bumpers, cage ,seats, suspension, axels, wheels..and way more than I can list, but I did it right.

He wanted me to buy it and I told him NO!
He said well take it from me and just pay me when you want.
I said ok. He paid 9000---I agreed to less...a lot!
I paid him off and it sat in the garage while I drove MY pride and Joy..I ALWAYS wanted to put on my Jeep license plate frame "My other Car Is A Bronco" heh-heh...ONE thing I ALWAYS got "thumbs-up" whenever I took the Bronco out to keep the battery charged!;D

The bronco sat for 8 years being driven once every 3-4 months.;D

I moved and had to choose which ride to keep,%) sold the Jeep, kept the BETTER wheeler and well here I am buildin away!...with the BEST 4X platform EVER to roll off a production line!;D

I was always a Ford man, dad had a 3 speed 65 Mustang then a 68 auto mustang that he sold me as my 1st car in high school....always reliable!

77 was my first vehicle when I was 16. We had a lot of good times in that bronco through my teens into mid 20's. Lot of partying, cruising,4wheeling and a lot of beer. If that old bronco would have talked, I would have been in a lot of trouble. When I parted with the 77 I went about ten years without one. Just didn't Seem right, so I bought another one. Just had too many memories in that 77.

I originally bought the car when I sold my fox mustang (wish i still had it, but now i have a bronc) and the bronco became my daily driver for a little over two years. Then i got a new job and started traveling a lot, plus had a new baby girl and decided to get a newer more "practical" rig as the wife says. However, the bronc still comes out quite often and is one of the two funest rigs I have ever had, tied with my '66 stang.
