    Are you using a shroud? That can make a huge difference. I sealed between the radiator and core support to force air through radiator rather than around it.

    What I came with when pulling Explorer serps in the junk yard was to find one of the balance holes in the o.d. of the harmonic. i stick a large allen key in the hole and then rotate until the key contacts the waterpump. Locks the engine right up...

    Yep, I'm another that rebuilt a 4R using those videos. Auto trans was always a mystery to me and intimidating. Not that bad to work on... Cleanliness is something you need to pay attention to.

    I can understand the desire to retain V belts and keep the truck more or less how it was made from the factory. My Mustang was the 1st pony in my corral & its more or less stock. My Bronco is the other extreme with fuel injected 351/4R/NP205 and an endless list of mods... So I understand both...

    I used the Explorer 4R dipstick and have headers. Had to adjust the bends a bit but nothing too radical
