Thanks.

Got about 50 miles on today... just all short 10 min jaunts. Then 30min of cool down time for all the gears... loving the 6r so far. 4.17 first is nice...

I'll post up more impressions in a few days.

The manual mode is impressive. So quick and easy to flip a switch and toggle back and forth for shifting up or down... that feature I'm going to like.

Not sure if I like my modified Winters for it but will see... not doing anything on shifters till after we hit the sand dunes in Sept. Gotta go play a little... :)

Another thing I noticed was when I stopped at the gas station... I drive a Bronco and everyone notices!!

First guy came up talking about the "new Broncos".... pump wouldn't take my card so I hopped across the round a bout and pulled in. While I was filling up, 3 people stopped and said hi, another drove by and took a pic, last dude gave me a thumbs up as he walked by... guess being able to just "fill up the tank" days are gone now that I'm driving my Bronco again... lol

Maybe I should bump my insurance up again... everybody's talking Bronco's-probably the "whacko's" too! :(

Stay safe all.

As I was cruising underneath my Bronco today checking bolts, etc I thought... time to measure the clearance under the D60 frt and 14 bolt shaved rear...

D60 is 12 1/4" to grd

14 bolt is 12 1/8" to grd.

My old 914 I believe was the same as the 14 bolt.

Interesting little bit.
The rear Atlas flange for a 1350 CV takes 4- 7/16" bolts to attach to the flange. The frt Atlas flange for a 1350 takes 4- 1/2" bolts to attach it to the flange??? WTH? ... makes NO sense at all. Had my 4 - 7/16" Gr 8 bolts all lined up, loctite on the first one and the threads wouldn't start... geeeez guys! :(
I mean I could have checked it but that's like needing 3 different sized lug nuts to remove your 4 tires... what a joke. Oh well, in to town tomorrow to get 4 the same length. :)

...put 150 miles in the past couple days... the trans gear splits and shifts are better than I was hoping.

Having the ability to shift up or down from any gear at any speed/rpm (below 5700) is amazing. Flip a (temp mounted) switch and bump the shifter side to side... exactly what I hoped for!

Any time, been and is my pleasure!

Finally got mine out of hibernation... tried to last week but the brake booster failed about 5 miles from home, took a few days for the replacement to arrive. I cheaped out, I had said if it failed I was going to replace with hydroboost, but a brand new (not reman) vacuum booster was only $60 for the win. All good now, drove it 30 miles to the office this morning;D

A bit of trivia for anyone still running vacuum brakes, a 1980 corvette booster fits in place of the stock sized unit and has more power. Depending on your booster bracket you may or may not have to modify the linkage but it fits and gives a significant boost in power.

Pic night... show how CLOSE the moving parts are to the non-moving parts!!! Squeeeak... man it's tight.

Can't load more than 2 picks again... 3rd time trying to load 2 pics! I'll keep at it... Bingo!

1st pic just shows it's crowded. 2nd pic from the front shooting back under the DS. 3rd pic shows a rule between the center ball mount for the CV and the trans case....

These pics show a 1/4" wide tape rule and it touches both the CV and the trans in the first pic...that's a BIT tight... ;0

2nd pic- bit misleading because the camera isn't directly below... from straight below it's 1/4" gap.

3rd pic is in the front showing a straight rule against the frt DS and if it went straight up it would clear the inlet/outlet fittings for the trans coolers by 1/4"...

Dang, I knew it would be tight but this is t i g h t... :) I figured this in and I need it...when the suspension compresses it will move the axle slightly towards the DS, a much needed help.

Here's a pc of blue tape marking where the very back edge of my NP205 was with the doubler... eliminating it helped the rear DS angle but didn't help the front...

2nd pic shows what 1/4" looks like between a 1350 CV joint and the back corner of a 6r80...

I took 50 measurements and knew it would be close... :)

None of this would have fit if I hadn't stuffed the Snofighter D60 in a few years back and cut the DS tube off by 2 3/4", essentially moving the pinion center to the DS that far. Needed it then but really needed it for the 6r80.

IF it wouldn't have cleared my next logical step would have been to notch the frame so I could clock the Atlas thereby eliminating this clearance issue but it would have totally screwed my front DS angle. Of course I could lower the rear of the t-case some but I'm already at almost 5-6 deg I think...

Lighter duty DS isn't an option with my HP.

Hey... it fits.

When your everything is close everything and nothing touches that isn’t supposed to is perfection! That is the art that separates the bolt on builders from out of the box builders that are at the top of their game:cool:

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. :)

Moving on to putting my tailgate back on as I'm getting fumes sucked in w/o it on... if my spare goes in "pre-runner" style I'll seal it off to the sides... be fume free. Can't risk sucking Carbon Monoxide for hours at a time... gotta save my last few precious brain cells as the "pool" is shrinking!

Here's a pic of the tailgate after paint. Lifting my 123# spare tire/wheel (so much easier using the engine hoist or my overhead hoist).

Building a kayak rack for my wife who has gotten into kayaking this summer. Good excuse to take the Bronco instead of the truck!

OK, promise you won't laugh at loud at the pics ok? Promise? lol

Remember this was a temporary shifter mounting to see if -

1- I liked it just off vertical

2- I could still get to the t-case shifter

3- If I liked the Winters with microswitches mounted inside so I could bumpshift the 6r80 with it instead of going with something like a Lokar ($500 bucks!! ka-ching)

Well, I don't like the Winters with the microswitches mounted inside since it doesn't allow for any gates to be used- like no gate for Park. Just the trans detent. I didn't like the possibility of it accidently shifting out of "P" when parked if I reached in for a coat and it let's say caught the shifter handle, or any other rare but potentially completely destroying my rig if it started rolling.

So I looked at Lokar, Sand Hollow shifter, keeping my Winters or even going with a new "electronic" no mechanical shifter needed "shifter". Way cool all electronic shifter.

Anyway, I ordered a new gate since I'd worn my old one out after wearing the stock shifter rod almost in half shifting it daily for over a decade... I use my Bronco a lot ok... a lot!! :)

Anyway, this is ALL TEMPORARY and just to see if I like it and I didn't so I'm glad I didn't have any time in it.

On the left side of the Winters gate btw R & N there is normally a gate.

By cutting it out I can now with only 2 motions move my shifter from Park to Drive. Without cutting that gate out it would take 6 separate motions of the shifter to get to Drive. Much nicer for the # of times a day I drive it. Perfect

I have to cover the gear selection "spots" in the Winters gates (2 & 1) below the "3" on the shifter gate for the 6r80. I don't need any gates below "3". I have an alum cover in the pic but haven't attached it to this new gate yet.

Now the really neat part is I can drop the shifter down the left side of the gate into "3" (in only 2 motions) which is Drive and then kick it over to the right so it can't accidently shift into any other gear AND because of my wiring on the Quick 6 I can now access "manual" mode in my trans by just leaving the shifter in Drive (OE shifters you have to manually move the shifter to the "2" position). Then I flip an on/off switch to on and then running the auto like a manual by just clicking a momentary double pole rocker switch!

It's exactly, I mean exactly what I wanted. Total full control of the trans in any and every gear manually and by flipping a simple on/off switch I can drive it in full automatice mode with a choice of 4 very different tunes... from "ice cream tune" meaning nice easy soft shifts (USSHIFT calls this Medium-Hard shift) to full max shift capacity shifting for sand dune climbing and nasty deep concrete slush type snow. Way cool.

For those of you still reading :), I made a little hinged plate for blocking out "Park". What this does is allow me to be wheeling and if I'm in a nasty spot where I might get a little light in the front end or worry about it coming over the top I would have already flipped this hinged plate over and it will completely block out the shifters ability to move into park when and if I need to ram it into reverse quickly. Super simple, could be cleaner but it was temporary also to see if I was keeping the Winters and it works great.

I finished converting the Winters back to gate style shifting and installed (temporary again) a momentary rocker switch and now I feel I have the trans I wanted since I installed the 4r70 back in 2011. Took it for a quick ride tonight... chirps often into 2nd when over 3K rpm. :)

I have 2 transmissions in one: full auto with 4 different tunes and full manual without any overides from the tranny.

So this winter I will build a new console to house what I think I want permanently mounted - - a Winters shifter with gates modified for safety and a simple momentary rocker switch for total manual control of the 6r80... dang, I'm so excited... it shifts so smooth manually, exactly when I want... best of both.

I think I can officially declare, even w/o wheeling it any where yet that this is the BEST all 'round trans I've ever had in my Bronco... and it's the SEVENTH one I've had now! :) lol

Hope all this helps someone doing their own swap!

I've burned over 60 gal of gas the last 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. About avg for me from Feb till Thanksgiving. About 18-21 gal a week.

Really pleased with everything (have I said that yet? :) 6r is just... sweet and rebuilding and modifying tbe Winters made it work so much better than relying on the trans detents.

Is this the 6r80 that comes in the F150's?

I have the 6 speed in my '12 F150 behind the 5.0 and it is super nice compared to the 4 speeds prior. My '17 has the 10 speed which would likely be overkill for an EB since it intentionally jumps gears when running empty.
