You can see how much the holes need to be opened up to fit the metric pattern.

Thx Clay... relentlessly persuing... the ability to drive it again!! :)

I would be having more fun if I wasn't trying to get this all done by last week so I could get ready for driving to Moab the end of next week!! Mtrhome, trlr, packing... :)

My steering is all done except assembling the shaft from the column to the box. Can't do that till I pull my new column out and clear coat it. Maybe today. I'm not sure I want to waste much time trying to muscle the 215# trans around and align it by myself.

That’s nuts! Metric pattern? Is that just luck of the draw type of thing or were some years/models metric?

Just added this EXCELLENT reference for 6r80's:
https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resourc...-features-to-check-before-you-begin-a-rebuild

Out of the 3 flexplates I bought (hoping the TC studs would slide into the flexplate holes effortlessly... none of rhem do.

The difference between them is amazing. The cheezy little OReillys one (OE and 28oz) I bought just for giggles to see if it fit w/o drilling actually had a disclaimer stating "Not to be used in RV or HD use", etc, etc!

The one I pulled off matched one of the ones I ordered and then the 3rd one was about 70% heavier (yeah-I weighed them) and is much thicker, machining looks better too.

New trucks cars, everything's metric. The nuts holding the converter to my flexplate are metric. Yup, we get to haul two sets of tools up in the hills with us now! :(

213 # of 6r80 slipped in like the book says it should.

Almost .120" of clearance for the converter to slide forward on the studs.
Critical when doing non-stock swaps.

Question- in my head I figured the FPS (feet per second) that the teeth on the ring gear are travelling. Roughly 4,000 fps at 6K rpm. No wonder those flexplate fragments are flying out of there faster than 90% of the rifles we plunk or hunt with...

Hmm...

v = RPM * pi * D(ft) / 60 or D(ft) = v / RPM / pi * 60, -> 4000 / 6000 / 3.14 * 60 = 12.7 ft

So you have a 12.7 foot diameter flex plate. ;D

I think it's more like 372 fps for a 14.23 inch OD flex plate.

Making sure you were following still... I posted up the wrong anwer and was waiting for ya to answer :)

LOL

I think I went with inches instead feet... multiply your answer by 12 and it comes out closer to my answer... you obviously didn't do this in your head!

Thanks for the correct anwer btw. :)

Lot's of progress today but nothing big enough to have on a check off list or else your to-do list would be 9 pages long!!

I did solve the lower radiator hose puzzle easily today tho... only one splice.

Well, 372 fps is nothing I want coming at me. But I couldn't pass up an opportunity to poke fun at your neatly 13 foot flex plate. ;)

We have issues at work called "chain shot" where the large chainsaw chain used on our processor heads comes apart at full spin. It will pierce through steel, wood and the Lexan cab guards. Nothing to ignore.

.94 OR - that just sounds ugly :(

makes me think of the logging days when the greenies would spike trees...

Seems wierd to be actually bolting things in. I mean I've taken the radiator in and out probably 30 times fitting it, the shroud, juggling piecing together hoses & the ps cooler . I mean it's a GOOD thing. lol

Well, I owe my wife a lot tonight. :) She climbed up on to my 3/4" thick x 36" dia steel work/fab bench to hold it down as I was heating and bending my two pitman arms which were clamped securely to the table so I could dial in the angle & height I need them. I was lifting the table with her on it and she wasn't exactly excited about it. :) My old rose bud tip popped a couple times - - she doesn't like heights and she was a trooper. lol

All turned out well. Pitman arms are cooling slowly in my wood stove sand.

Cool, as hard as you play a backup pitman is probably a good idea! :)
I’m guessing “Top of the world” and “Cliffhanger” aren’t you wife’s favorite trails? Hope you get things buttoned up...sounds like it’s coming together in spite of the setback.

Fired it up for 5 seconds tonight... Great sound to hear... :)

No fan shroud clunking, no ugly noises :) .

I have wires hanging ALL over the fenders and a lot of stuff to "tidy up". Still have the 6r to top off, pwr strg to bleed, pitman arm to "adjust" 1/4" lower, get some more anti-freeze and distilled water

My question: Who runs cathodic protection in their aluminum radiators?

Scott- my wife's favorite trail is Kane Creek... :) You're right! lol She's being very understanding of me not being here from daybreak till 10 every night. Quit early tonight.

I believe my Bronco has the most trapped air bubbles of any pwr strg setup with HB and a ram ... anywhere. lol

I worked for 4 hrs on it yesterday trying to bleed the air. As an example- after a couple of hrs turning the wheel lock to lock following PSC instructions to the letter I would develop enough foam in the reservoir that you couldn't see the fluid thru the bubbles.

SO I tried Hydratech's step by step instructions after talking to a buddy that has the exact same setup as me and after 100 times going lock to lock his was bubble free... so I followed their instructions and still get bubbles after appr 80 or more lock to lock turns of the strg wheel. It's like this ever time I bleed the pwr strg.

This morning I am going to crack the fittings on each end of the ram and try to get rid of the trapped air. Since the fluid doesn't push thru or recirc thru the cylinders I will try bleeding the air directly out of the cylinder.

I've got 5 days before we were going to leave for Moab...

6:30 am till 11pm shift... buddy came over and we attacked the "too long, too short, need to move, gotta add this, don't need this" wiring rat's nest that happens when you remove the core support!!

Lot's done yesterday... finally got 99% of the air out of the pwr strg... after I had spent at least 4 solid hours following PSC and Hydratech's step by step bleeding instructions- - - I cracked the fittings at the ram as Tim cranked the wheel and the air bleeding out of the ram could be heard across the shop.

There's no way for that air to get "shoved" out of the ram because it is dead-ended against the piston.

Anyway, won't waste so much time cranking the wheel 200 X before cracking those fittings!

This reservoir extension really helps allow you to pour enough fluid in when the system has so much air it compresses it alot then burps it out when you shut the engine off. This allows you to "over-fill" it, then as you bleed the air out the level lowers and you don't have a mess on the floor. :)

I usually syphon off to reach the level needed when done bleeding.
